Frequently asked questions.
How do I specify a chord
change at the third beat?
In the song window, precede the chord with two
comma's. One for each beat delay. In the sequencer window,
precede the chord with the beatnumber e.g. 3:Dm. Or drag the
beatnumber (listed in brown beneath the barnumber) to the desired
value before you specify the chord.
Why do I get an empty MIDI
file after recording in the voices window?
After pressing the record button you must start
the accompaniment by playing a chord. Any melody that you play
before the accompaniment starts is not recorded.
Why does the sequencer
stops playing and recording after bar 12 while there are chords
defined until bar 32?
In the sequencer window playing or recording will
stop after the last part in the sequence is played once. This
last part is supposed to be the ending. If you don't have an
ending part in your sequence then add a marker with the stop
option selected after the last bar that should be played.
What kind of cable do I
need to connect my keyboard with the PC?
You need a midi interface cable. One side has a 15-pin connecter
that goes into the PC-joystick connection. The other side has two
round 5-pin plugs that go into the midi-in and midi-out of your
keyboard.
How do I connect to OMB
with a To Host connection?
Before you can do this you must first install the special Windows
driver for this type of connection. It should have been supplied
with your keyboard. Check the index of you keyboard manual for
"To Host".
Why are the style in OMB
and the style in my keyboard playing at the same time?
When you use your keyboard with a program like OMB you must first
switch your keyboard from "arranger mode" to "midi
mode". Look in your manual how to accomplish this.

Why do I hear an
instrument sound that I didn't include in the multi-voice in OMB?
Set your keyboard "Local Off". Check your keyboard
manual how this is done.
Why is there a delay
between the time I press a melody key and the time I actually
hear the sound?
This problem may occur when you are using a software synthesizer
like the Roland VSC. This problem is called latency. Some (on
board) soundcards also make use of software synthesis. A
Soundblaster soundcard (any type) will give acceptable sound
quality without latency. Yamaha provides XG soundcards that will
give excellent results but are much more expensive.
Why do I hear a delay when I switch
variations?
This problem should not occur with the include styles and most
Yamaha factory styles. It may occur with a lot of converted
styles. These styles often contain bank and patch changes and
controller settings at the start of each variation. Some (older)
synths need a lot of time to process this changes. You can use
the style window to remove these redundant events.

beside your Mac for this and other software.
Why do I get the message
"Unable to open file" whenever I try to open a style
file?
This problem occurs in the Chinese version of Windows 98 and in
the Korean version of Windows ME. There haven't been reports of
this problem occurring in Windows XP in any language. A
message from a user regarding this: I am using Windows
2000. When I evaluated the software, I have my locale set to
English and it WORKED. But right before I register to the
software, I changed my locale to Traditional Chinese which failed
the program while opening the file. So, after setting the locale
and language back to English, it works.
