Synchronisation of the MIDI tracks and the CD player is checked and corrected continuously while playing.The MIDI instruments can be recorded using an external MIDI keyboard controller or the PC keyboard. Recorded notes can be edited in a piano roll or an events list. The resulting sound of MIDI instruments and CD can be recorded to a wave audio file that can be placed on a recordable audio CD.The MIDI instruments of a basic PC soundcard can be used, but features of advanced MIDI devices are supported too. For the selection of instruments, instrument defintion files (*.ins) in standard Cakewalk/Sonar format can be used. Files with system exclusive messages in standard (*.syx) format can be included in the sequence. The values of pitch and numerous controller types can be varied with sliders while recording. Wave (*.wav) files with soundeffects can be included in the sequence too.For any suggestions, mail to: josmaas@1manband.nl@cL1LGGetting startedT Gi ȀGetting startedIn the unregistered version this helpfile will always appear when you start the program. The info in this chapter is all you need to start your first exploration.Settings.Your MIDI keyboard controller (if you have one) should be connected with the computer with a MIDI or USB cable. You should have the correct MIDI driver installed for this type of connection. If you have used the keyboard with MIDI software before then there should be no problem. In the settings menu select the MIDI In port that is connected to your MIDI keyboard and the MIDI Out port that is connected to your MIDI synthesizer.Playing a CD track.Insert an audio CD in the CD drive of your PC and select the drive with the listbox on the right of the play button. Select a track with the listbox on the right of the record button. Press the play button to start the track and play along on the PC or MIDI keyboard. The available PC keys for playing are listed on the keyboard picture at the bottom of the screen. You can change the range of the keys by pressing the buttons in the lower right corner of the screen.Stay in tune.It might be that the CD track is not exactly in tune with your MIDI synthesizer. In that case you will have to tune the synth. Click on the label above the sliders (default it lists "Volume"). Select "Pitch". Now double click on any of the sliders. They will change colour to yellow. Now you can adjust the pitch to a new fixed value (normally the pitch will always return to zero if you release the mouse button). Move the slider while playing until the MIDI instruments sound in tune with the CD.Instruments definition.You can play and record more then one instrument at a time. The keys that you play on MIDI or PC keyboard are played thru each channel that is selected on the left of the screen. Select an instrument for a channel by clicking on the corresponding instrument label. A window will popup where you can select an instrument (patch) from the available banks. If you are using a basic soundcard synhesizer then just choose from the 128 instrument in Bank 0. If yoLG u have an XG synth then choose from any of the available XG synths. If you have a (Cakewalk/Sonar format) instrument definition file for your synth then copy and rename it to cdseq.ins and overwrite the existing cdseq.ins file in the CD Sequencer folder. You can also define the instrument by specifying the Patch/Msb/Lsb. Msb is the part of the banknumber that is specified with controller 0 and Lsb the part of the banknumber that is specified with controller 32.Recording.Press the record button. The CD track will start playing. Play along to record MIDI notes. Press the stop button when you're finished. You can now select a different channel with another intrument and record again. When all instruments are recorded you can record live effects with the slider. E.g. set "resonance" high and record movements of the sliders with "brightness" to create wah-wah effects. This will only have effect on synths that support these effects. Slider movements while recording are kept in the sequence and previously recorded slider values of the same type are overwritten as long as the mouse button is down. When recording stops the slider will go back to the position it was before the recording. You can edit the recorded notes and controllers by clicking on the events label. When the track is finished check the "Record wave audio option" and press the record button. The track will be recorded as digital audio and when finished you can audition and save it.Using MS Windows audio mixer.You will need the standard MS Windows audio mixer to control the sound levels of the CD players, the MIDI synth, Aux input and the waves. Double click on the audio mixer icon on the Windows task bar. Also check that all the used devices are selected for recording in the audio mixer. If the recorded level is maximum and the recorded wave file is still not loud enough then you can use MS Windows sound recorder to add some volume to the wave file.@LG1(GLThe events listGL4 6i ȀThe events listThis window is reached by clicking on one of the events fields in the main window and then selecting "events list".All the events in the current channel are listed. If you want to see the events in all channels then select the "All channels option". To delete an event, click on it to select it and then press the delete key. To insert an event at the current line press the insert key.Double click on any of the values to change it. Start time and lenght are specified in minutes:seconds:milliseconds. The first value of a note is the pitch the second value the velocity (loudness). If you select type "SysEx" and load a system exclusive file then the file is kept in the sequence. But when you select "Wave" and load a wave file then only the name of the wave file is kept when you save the sequence. If you delete the wave file then you won't be able to play it the next time you load the sequence.Use the up and down arrow keys and PageUp PageDown keys to scroll thru the events. Or enter the time you want to jump to in the field in the lower left corner of the window. If you press the play button then the sequence will start to play from the currently selected event.: GM1MpianorollL3 4+ ȀThe piano rollThis window is reached by clicking on one of the events fields in the main window and then selecting "piano roll".All the recorded notes in all channels are visible. The notes in the current channel are grey coloured and are on top of the white coloured notes in other channels. The notes in all channels can be manipulated. To change the pitch of a note, point the cursor at the middle of the note. It will change to an up-down arrow, you can drag it up and down with the mouse button down. To change the starting point, point the cursor at the left edge of the note. It will change to a right-left arrow, you can drag it to the left and to the right. To change the length of a noMLte, point the cursor at the right edge of a note. The cursor will change to a right-left arrow and you can drag the edge of the note to the left and to the right.Insert notes by clicking on an empty space with the ctrl key down. Delete a note by clicking on it with the ctrl-key down. The time and pitch at the mouse position is shown at the top of the window. If you point at a note the velocity is shown too. You can change the velocity by dragging the note up and down with the right mouse button down.When you press the play button, playing starts at the time at the left side of the window. All played notes are highlighted while they sound. Use the + and - buttons at the lower right corner to zoom in and zoom out.6M1) sysex / ,ȀSystem exclusive MIDI messagesThis window is reached by selecting type "SysEx" in the events list or by double clicking on the value of a sysex event in the events list.You can load, edit and save System Exclusdive and other MIDI data in this window. When you exit this window the data that is on screen will be the sysex data of the sysex event. Any combination of system exclusive data, patches and controllers can be entered and will be sent to the MIDI out device when this event is reached in the sequence. When you save or exit there is a check if it is valid hexadecimal data but not if it is recognisable for your synthesizer. Press the send button to check what the effect on your synth is.7B1<BGdelete G/ ,ȀDelete eventsThis window is reached by selecting menu Edit/Clear events. But if you want to use many different instrument banks then this is a method to be able to address this instruments by name rather then by (controller) numbers.CD Sequencer uses the same instrument definition file format as Cakewalk. If you have an ins file for your synthesizer in Cakewalk then you can rename it to cdseq.ins and replace the cdseq.ins file in the CD Sequencer folder. CD Sequencer doesn't use all the info in the ins file, just the list of all the patches and drumsets in the different banks. If you can't find an ins file on the internet or you need to make some modifications to the one you have, then here is a specification of what CD Sequencer needs to find in it. You can edit the file in MS-Windows Note Pad.First there must be a line with the text:.Patch NamesDon't forget the dot on the first position. After that come the patch definitions in the banks. Each bank starts with:[Bankname]The Bankname can be any text. It will be visible in the bank list in CD Sequencer. After the bankname comes a list of the patches in the bank, each on a separate line.0=GrandPno 1=BritePno 2=E.Grand 3=HnkyTonk 4=E.Piano1 5=E.Piano2 6=Harpsi. 7=Clavi. 8=Celesta The number before the = sign is the patchnumber and is always numbered from 0 to 127. Omissions of numbers are of course possible if your synth does not have all the patches filled in this bank. The text after then description is the name of the patch that will be visible in the patch list in CD Sequencer. If the patches in your synth are numbered 1 to 128 then you could define them as follows: 0=1 GrandPno 1=2 BritePno 2=3 E.Grand 3=4 HnkyTonk 4=5 E.Piano1 5=6 E.Piano2 6=7 Harpsi. 7=8 Clavi. 8=9 Celesta Now the text "1 GrandPno" etc. will be shown in CD Sequencer.Repeat the bank line and patch lines for all banks. After that there should appear a line that indicates the start of the instrument definitions where the banknumber of each bank is defined:.INSTRUMENT DEFINITIONSAfter that follows a list with banknumbers and names:Patch[Banknr]=BanknameBanknr is the value of the banknumber (0 - 16383) and Bankname is the same (exact same spelling) as the Bankname in the ".Patch Names" section.You can add comment lines starting with a semicolon:;Instrument definition of my synth.Note names and controller names are not used by CD Sequencer.9 1 _RegisterU_t Ȁ>EF("http://www.1manband.nl/cdsequencer/register.htm","",5,"")How to registerRegistration costs $25.00. It uses standard style files compatible with the styles used in Yamaha PSR, DGX and Tyros arranger keyboards. It can play the thousands of Yamaha styles that are available on internet and it can create styles that can be played on a Yamaha keyboard and in XG Works.The virtual arranger keyboard has a very flexible user interface. You can define how you want to trigger variations (intro, ending, fill in, level), using keys or controll buttons on your MIDI keyboard or on your PC keyboard. You can configure it to do any operation including loadings styles, etc. on your MIDI keyboard without having to touch the PC keyboard or mouse.With the sequencer you can produce professional MIDI files. In a large grid (viewing 64 bars at once) you can place chords and parts from up to 10 different styles.The style editor lets you create styles by recording them each track or copy parts and tracks from existings styles or paste parts from MIDI files. You can make a large collection of tracks (patterns) to create new styles. Do small adjustments to existings styles to make them match your synthesizer.Busker.Busker is an editor and player for songs with melody in staff and chord symbols. Unlike piano notation there is no second set of staff lines for the left hand notes to play, instead there are the chord symbols. This type of notations is commonly used by singers that accompany themselves on guitar or arranger keyboard.You can create a song by dragging symbols to the staff or by importing an ABC file. Songs can be saved as Midi and karaoke files. Songs can be printed as sheet music.Songs are played using the included styles or any Yamaha compatible style. Songs can also be played using the built in styles of any arranger keyboard (connected with a MIDI cable).During playback the texts is displayed in large font (for Karaoke). The melody and chords played are shown on a piano keyboard for keyboard teaching by example. Chord fingerings for different type of keyboards (full fingered, single finger) can be selected.Chord Player.Chord Player is a tool that will play the chords on an arranger keyboard so that you will have both hands available for melody playing and style-variation switching.The chords for the songs can be entered in a text window and can be saved in chord files. A chord file with the chord sequences for a hundred well known songs is included.Text can be included between the chord lines for orientation or karaoke. The textsize can be adjusted.The chords played are shown on a piano keyboard for keyboard teaching by example. Chord playing can be switched off so that you can play the chords yourself while the displayed chords on screen stay synchronised with your keyboard.11 $ !Ȁ 11 0HelvSVuWV=Arial3SSjSjh"kb F efghij>k/&;)Lz\NameSpaceDEContentsFWhat is CD Sequencer?Getting startedThe events listpianorollsysexdeletedefaults>wallpaperRegisterEnEj^뱋 <D ;Eu̡jH4YuSV53Wv%|$Jyu +;\$@;r_^[ | 5T$T USVWjj@3;e}VRuGu PQ;ÉEyeSSSSw gFWPE~F ECF^03_^[]g4%kD0C1U8SVuWF@ EF;E|3~t~v+};uvuu VP HE+NN@|,N39A(dEWEEPFP EfePEPjvE UeE[F ȃ``uauu| Mt_^[WvFMQP}PEPFP=E \d uVt$NF(FPQFPQFtPV3^ SUVWt$$ӃD$St$(pMD$| 3_^][ =  t$ D$D$c|$(cPcD$T+ r/LD$+3Ɂ;cQQjQOcPP,j j@TcD$WhVc~7UL=t#uOPVL$$Gd$D$UEcE VPhu u.|!uuhPsuu E PQ^]USVWjj@b]~ WuCu PQEbCtVRuu PQ؅bEffFF03_^[]^%GI1UVj vYIbuuu utM3^]D$VPL$NL$FF NGQFPQD$F^%PJGWinJVt$NF~^F tPQFtPQVUQeSVuW3kF}aN;|$}| uEEtE_^[};] svP4P$aFFNC;}V~WUSj<Fr9؅tRF398~GWPDV#t$`p!tPhv,FG;8|t[]_^USVWjj`U؋F RURj_WPQ uk9}/&;)L4RURWPQ$E  6y>c@8SN8Ti [$=7/vtd89}8M M QPWv8u9}uV8< )<,!;uK;t;u9}Ej@PWv}=6T>fu8P<hS?~EPhjSvu$ESP<EPh6Pu3W;uEPEP<EPh6PEEj@Puvׅu139~SPDPEP4tC;}V3_^[ ,D$t$D$0DVt$tv6TV^l$UQMS3V;W}9]uNE;}URhQ;|dEURu PQ;|EE9]uu6PQ9]ug}VuPQ;|E;<}EPQEPQ_^[4 V!D$Wt;t+$$|3t$t$RP|_^jj`USV3VVVuu ;tqS};ƉE ~^WEPVSuP"}3EEPPVS9uEPP"| EPuAF;u |_S0^[ Vt$t$ 6D@|t$t$Pvr^US]VWS:u 3E~WSZ;|G;}|VhSPjX_^[]D$t$t$ |t$t$jPj,t$t$Dt$TU(SVWj5t[Sjh փt_^[ÍE؉]Pjh+]D$VpV,^Vt$u^VtVp^{
